Multaqa Al-Madina

Multaqa Al-Madina the first lifestyle mall in Madina sits just 5 minutes from Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, overlooking the King Abdulaziz Road. 

Against nearly 400 meters of simple cubic architecture, the entrance gate is the building's one variable: a folding, triangular form clad in the Islamic geometric pattern that roots the entire façade in its loci.  MASQ's brief: turn that pattern into a living, breathing skin. 

Behind the perforated cladding, LED sheets and an acrylic diffusion layer make the pattern itself the light source, enhanced by RGBW pixel-addressable grazing fixtures for a dynamic, ever-changing façade. MASQ proposed a range of installation concepts for the gate — from motion-responsive lighting to a full 3D media display — designed to make this entrance the single most photographed moment in the district.
